Although machinable, the high strengths of ASTM B862 Ti Alloy Pipes make machining difficult. As an example, machining of ASME SB 862 Ti Alloy Welded Pipes is around 20 % slower than for 304. These ASTM B862 Titanium Grade 2 Pipes are available in four groups that include martensitic, austenitic, ferritic and precipitation – hardened steels.

ASME SB 862 Titanium Grade 5 Pipes contain larger amounts of chromium in  comparison with other steels and thus have good corrosion resistance. Most of the stainless steels such as ASTM B862 Titanium Grade 2 Welded Pipes contain about 10 % of chromium, which are further formed based on the crystalline structure of stainless steels. In cold impact tests, ASME SB 862 Titanium Grade 5 Welded Pipes can experience 40 % expansion deformation before cracking.

Scope And Manufacturing

 

ASTM B862 specification covers the Titanium Welded Pipe used in acidic environments. Titanium Welded pipe is made from annealed flat rolled products of a welding process. These welded pipe may be further reduced by cold working or hot working. Titanium Grade 1 and Titanium Grade 2 are to be furnished as welded or annealed. The titanium grades conform to the required chemical composition for the product.

The titanium welded tube conform to the required mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. As for formability, titanium can be bent, cold-formed, and drawn readily. Furthermore, most industrial titanium alloys do not require stress relief annealing after cold forming. Grade 2 titanium is considered the workhorse of the titanium family and is suitable for most applications.
