Stainless Steel 446 Sanitary Tubes is austenitic grades and quite ductile in the annealed condition, where local sulfidation attack under the deposit can then occur. However, when machining, these Stainless Steel 446 Smooth Finish Pipes work harden more rapidly and require more power to cut than plain carbon steels. Stainless Steel 446 Smooth Finish Tubes has good resistance to hot bearing atmospheres, meaning sulfidation under oxidizing conditions.
However, Stainless Steel 446 Inside Polished Pipes is not resistant to reducing sulfidizing atmospheres, when sulphur is present as H2S. Note that even though the atmosphere may be oxidizing in Stainless Steel 446 Inside Polished Tubes, the partial pressure of oxygen can be extremely low under solid sulphate deposits. 446 Stainless Steel Electropolish Pipes and Tubes has exceptional oxidation resistance up to about 2000 Degree F (1093 Degree C), where above this temperature, its oxidation resistance drops off.
