Scope And Manufacturing
ASTM B515 specification covers welded UNS N08800 tube. Tubes having other dimensions may be furnished provided such tubing complies with all other requirements of this specification. The welded tube is manufactured by process like Fretz moon, high frequency induction, submerged arc and combination gas shielded submerged arc processes and much more.
In Fretz moon process, welded stock is continuously rolled by rollers into an open seam tube and then mating edges are pressed together and welded with a process related to forged welding technique. The following tests shall be performed: (1) flattening test, (2) flange test, (3) Class 1 nondestructive test by one of the following: hydrostatic, pneumatic (air underwater), eddy current, or ultrasonic test, and (4) Class 2 nondestructive test by leak and electric (eddy current, or ultrasonic test) test.
