The ASTM A213 TP 304 grade is the most common grade of SS. It has the austenitic microstructure with the addition of nickel, nitrogen, manganese. This offers great weldability and formability to the alloy. The corrosion resistance ability can be further improved by augmenting the process. Moreover, the austenitic grade is more vulnerable to stress corrosion cracking. This grade cannot be hardened by heat treatment process but from the cold working process, hence it becomes magnetic and slightly nonmagnetic in nature. The high levels of strength retain the strength and ductility.
